DNC Used Campaign Funds to Pay for Biden’s Legal Fees, Condemned Trump for Doing the Same

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) paid $1.5 million for President Joe Biden’s legal bills during Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified materials.

The Biden campaign has criticized Donald Trump for using campaign funds to cover legal fees.

According to a report from Axios, between July 2023 and February 2024, the DNC “paid $1.05 million to Bob Bauer PLLC — the professional limited liability company for Biden’s lead attorney, Bob Bauer.”

These payments were primarily used for “handling the special counsel probe, including bringing on veteran lawyer David Laufman,” the outlet said.

Since last July, the DNC increased monthly payments to law firm Hemenway & Barnes from $15,000 to $100,000.

The Biden campaign’s finance chair, Rufus Gifford, said last week that they “are not spending money on legal bills.”

“We are not hawking gold sneakers or any of that stuff,” Gifford told MSNBC. “The money that we are raising, we are going straight to talking to voters.”

RNC Committeeman Solomon Yue told CNBC last month that he and others “support the RNC paying President Trump’s legal bills.”

“Winning this lawfare is to defeat Biden’s reelection in November,” Yue wrote in an email. “The only mission of the Republican National Committee is to elect our presumptive nominee Trump as the 47th President.”

Another RNC committee member, Roger Villere, echoed Yue’s statement. “I believe the RNC should pay President Trump’s legal bills,” he said.

“I know we will be raising the money needed for that as well as electing our Republican candidates this fall,” Villere asserted.
