In the past two days, there has been significant breaking news about META/Instagram and their alarming involvement in the world of human trafficking. It is truly devastating to witness these platforms, owned by Mark Zuckerberg, criminally contributing to the exploitation of children and the global criminal enterprise of human trafficking.
To be honest, I have harbored disdain for these platforms for quite some time, hoping that they would eventually go bankrupt. As consumers, are we inadvertently supporting these unethical operations by keeping our accounts active, all in the name of convenience and any excuse we can muster?
I confess that I have maintained active accounts on both platforms while grappling with this very dilemma. My intention was to reach people who may not be aware of the ongoing issues and have chosen to abstain from other social media platforms. However, my efforts have been met with cancellations, deletions, and permanent lockouts from multiple accounts. I have even been banned from running ads. Recently, I received a threat that my truthful content violates their community standards, putting me at risk of another "cancellation."
Curiously, explicit content seems to escape scrutiny, as it doesn't violate community standards. We are finding that there is more porn circulating through META/Instagram then even through pornhub. This stark reality forces us to confront the fact that our children, once they step into the social media sphere or the digital world, have a digital clone. We should not succumb to fear but instead develop strategies to educate the younger generations about the impact of the digital age on brain development, communication skills, mental health, and more.
Elon Musk, with X (formerly known as Twitter), is currently championing free speech. X stands out as one of the freest speech platforms available. Notably, some major corporations are pulling their ads from X because they dislike being unable to participate in censoring the truth or because it conflicts with their ideologies. X is putting an end to the era of spreading mass "police state" propaganda. Musk is facing lawsuits from big corporations, yet he remains unfazed. He prioritizes freedom of speech over financial gain, gaining significant support from the population. I find myself considering a permanent departure from META/Instagram platforms and opting to stay with a platform that prioritizes and upholds free speech. Could a mass exodus from META/Instagram lead to their bankruptcy? As I reflect on these thoughts, I question whether humanity needs to witness the horrors of child trafficking firsthand before taking action. Can we, as a collective, initiate a grassroots campaign to shut down these platforms supporting child exploitation? What if we declared, "NO MORE"? What if our collective action brought this entire operation to a halt, changing the lives of countless children?
